Prayer Group

The St. John Bosco Prayer group is a spiritual initiative focused on intentionally praying for the youth around the world. I invite anybody interested to become an honorary member regardless of where you live. All members are encouraged to pray in whatever way they feel most appropriate for them, so long as the needs and spiritual wellbeing of the young are intentionally included.

If you would like to officially join my network by providing some basic information than please click the button below. Keep in mind that joining does not demand anything of you other than a promise to pray. It also does not entitle you to any special rights or privileges.

Note: the St. John Bosco Prayer Group is a personal initiative and is not officially endorsed by the Salesians of Don Bosco or any of their affiliates.

Prayer Service

The following is a prayer service that I compiled. Feel free to use it as you see fit.

Opening

Leader: As we gather together to pray for our special intention let us remember that we are in the presence of God.

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Gospel

A reading from an appropriate Gospel passage is shared. (For example: Matthew 19:13-15)

Leader: Meditating on the Word of God we quiet ourselves and allow Our Lord to encounter us. We open our hearts and our minds so that we might humble ourselves as children before our mighty God.

Reflection

A few minutes of personal prayer and reflection is shared by the group. Each person present is encouraged to consider the Gospel and how it relates to the work of aiding the youth.

Intercessions

Leader: Now let us bring before Our Lord all of our special intentions. Please respond, “Lord, hear our prayer.”

For all of our young people as they continue to grow and mature in faith, that they be afforded every opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament. We pray to the Lord.

For all of our young people who have never heard the transformative message of the Gospel, that they encounter it and allow it to transform their hearts. We pray to the Lord.

For all of our young people who are fearful to come to the healing mercy of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, that they be fortified and empowered to overcome and accept the incredible gift. We pray to the Lord.

For all Confirmed members of the Body of Christ who have distances themselves from the Sacraments and liturgical life of the Church, that the graces afforded them by the Holy Spirit guide them back into practicing the fullness of our faith. We pray to the Lord.

For all parents, guardians, and those who mentor and guide the youth of our community, that they strive to deepen their own faith so as to better serve those young people put under their care. We pray to the Lord.

For all the many needs that are in the hearts of our young people, that they recognize our God as loving Father and provider of all good things. We pray to the Lord.

Closing Prayer

God our Father, we thank you for the gift of love and the gift of life. We thank you for the gift of our young people. We ask you to send your holy angels to protect and guide them each day so that they will walk the narrow path of purity, self-control, and obedience, as was taught to us by your own Son. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, in union with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Leader: Saint John Bosco, patron of youth.

All: Pray for us.

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
