The following books have been very helpful to me as I grow in my friendship with Don Bosco and the Salesian charism.

If you are interested in learning more I would highly recommend them.

Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales (1609)

A spiritual masterpiece. St. Francis de Sales served as an inspiration for Don Bosco and the patron for his ministry. In this classic the Doctor of the Church highlights the fact that holiness is attainable in whatever vocation and circumstances one finds him or herself in.

Give Me Souls!: Life of Don Bosco by Peter Lappin (1986)

I really enjoy how this book is written. It gives a very thorough biography of Don Bosco while maintaining a simple and narrative style. It includes everything from his childhood, to his incredible dreams, and all the way through the founding of Society of St. Francis de Sales (Salesians of Don Bosco).

The Educational Philosophy of St. John Bosco by John Morrison (1979)

Don Bosco left a legacy of educational experience, and many of his techniques and principles have shaped our current methods in schools today. This book is not casual reading and best suited for educators interested in growing in their field. Nonetheless, it is worth a read for anyone interested specifically in his methodology.
